罢丑别听Sunday听Recital Series at 香蜜影视 will continue at 3 p.m. on听Sunday, November 15th听with听flutist Erin Murphy in Francis Auditorium.
鈥淭his recital will feature听Baroque, Classical, Romantic,听and Impressionistic works, along with Irish flute music,鈥 says Murphy. 鈥淓ach piece will demonstrate a different style, mood, and personality, and listeners will have the opportunity to hear the distinct differences between classical flute and Irish flute.鈥
Murphy will be joined by pianist Lise Keiter for the well-known听Suite in B Minor听by J.S. Bach,听Mozart鈥檚 beautiful听Andante, and the exciting and virtuosic听Fantaisie Pastorale Hongroise听by Franz Doppler. Doppler was a Polish composer and flute virtuoso living in the 19th-century, and the听贵补苍迟补颈蝉颈别听is one of his most popular works.听Murphy will also play Debussy鈥檚听Syrinx, a short piece for solo flute that is considered one of the most important solo flute works in the 20th-century. And she will collaborate with guitarist Rafael Scarfullery听for听Entr鈥檃cte,听a piece by Spanish composer Jacques Ibert.
Murphy is not only a seasoned classical performer, but also a specialist in Irish flute. She will close the program with a selection of traditional Irish works, alongside fiddler Andy Cleveland, accordion-player Sean Sutor, and Glenn Sutor playing the bouzouki (a string instrument similar to the mandolin).
Murphy earned master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees from James Madison University, and she completed her undergraduate work at San Diego State University. She is the leader and founder of the tradition Irish session at Corgans鈥 Publick House in Harrisonburg, and she maintains an active participation in the traditional Irish music community.
Both Murphy and Keiter are members of the music faculty at 香蜜影视. Keiter maintains an active performance schedule as both a soloist and chamber musician, and her recent engagements include concerts in Ohio, West Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, and throughout Virginia. Guitarist Scarfullery performs regularly in the U.S. and in the Dominican Republic. He is a composer and organist, as well as an award-winning guitarist.
