ÏãÃÛÓ°ÊÓ’s men’s soccer club will take the fieldÌýSaturdayÌýin a round-robin tournament with James Madison University and Longwood University, after handily defeating the Southern Virginia University Knights in a preseason match up Aug. 23. The collegiate debut for the Fighting Squirrels — and the debut of any men’s team in ÏãÃÛÓ°ÊÓ’s 177-year history — was somewhat of a Cinderella story, as the rookie squad and coaching staff, with only four days of practice under their belts, dominated possession with 10 shots on goal versus SVU’s one. After taking a 1–0 lead by halftime with a free kick, the Squirrels continued to dominate in the second half, ending the scrimmage with a 2–0 victory. The men’s squad will take on JMU atÌý10 a.m.Ìýand Longwood atÌý2 p.m.Ìý¾±²ÔÌý³§²¹³Ù³Ü°ù»å²¹²â’sÌýtournament on the lower athletic field.
