Sarah McCadden, OTD, OTR/L, CSOT, Level 1 FPHP

Sarah joined Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences as an adjunct instructor and became a full-time faculty member in 2021. She earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Shenandoah University in 2004 and her Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree from Radford University Carilion in 2019.
Sarah brings over 20 years of clinical experience across settings including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, home health, and skilled nursing, along with more than five years in academia. Sarah was an OT manager for over 6 years in an award winning Encompass inpatient rehabilitation hospital where she supported program development and certification through The Joint Commission. She specializes in adult neurologic and geriatric rehabilitation and has expanded her expertise into women’s health, with a focus on sexuality, pelvic health, and menopause. She is a Certified Sexuality OT and a Level 1 Functional Pelvic Health Practitioner.
She has a strong background in program development, including co-creating The Survivor Group, a stroke and brain injury support group. She currently serves as the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Parkinson’s Support Group Leader. Sarah continues to practice OT in a local retirement community, in addition to operating a private pelvic health practice supporting women.
Sarah’s scholarship emphasizes experiential learning, community engagement, and preparing students for leadership and advocacy in occupational therapy. She has mentored capstone projects in education, adult practice, advocacy, business development, and women’s health.
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys hiking and bicycling in the Shenandoah Valley with her son.
