Courses and Curriculum
The criminal justice curriculum is designed so that students can take courses in a variety of subjects within the field of criminal justice, offering a truly individualized experience. Students are able to work closely with faculty members who have practical and research experience in the Staunton community and around the nation. A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice requires 120 credit hours of study.
An introduction to the social scientific theory explaining crime and criminal behavior, with an emphasis on sociological theory. Topics include an overview of common crimes, crime measurement methods, contemporary criminology theory, and the social origins of crime and criminal behavior. You鈥檒l also learn how legislators, politicians, mass media, law enforcement, and court and corrections systems profoundly impact crime.
Examines the social causes and rates of juvenile delinquency and society鈥檚 treatment of young people who break the law. Explore related criminological and sociological theories, and apply your new knowledge to current events and media reports.
Introduces the changing dynamics of homeland security at the national and state levels. Explores the history and future of terrorism in a global context, and the dynamics of providing security in a range of different settings.
